Taiwan Is Part of China

     About 1500 years ago Chinese settled there, but the Dutch imperialist invaded there in the 17th century. After that, in 1662 Zheng Chenggong, a hero of nation,drove them out.  Since 1683 the island was ruled by Qing Dynasty nearly two centuries.
     Unfortunately Taiwan was seized by Japanese after the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895. It didn＇t come back until the Second World War ended.
      Nowadays I realize the serious situation. Some people are attempting to split China. These actions are wrong and should be punished. I also believe. With the head of "one country two systems", as long as we strengthen exchange in the future there will be an agreement. On this matter of national reunification.

The Danger of Fake Commodities

Today, fake commodities are quite common. In order to get high profits, some factories and companies produce fake commodities. Another cause of this phenomenon is that laws are not strict enough. Fake commodities can bring about great loss to both state and private property. A case in point is that if a consumer buys some fake medicine he will inevitably suffer much pain. The fake medicine may even cost his life. So every one of us has the duty to fight against fake commodities for our society and for ourselves.

Is Money Everything?

At present some people think that money is everything. They say that you can do everything if you have money. You can live in a beautiful house, keep a luxurious ear and have all sorts of delicious food.
     I don＇t think so. Indeed, money can buy a lot of things we need. But there are many, many wonderful things in the world that cannot be bough/; with money.
     For example, knowledge cannot be bought with money. One cannot be rich in knowledge unless he studies hard. Time cannot be bought with money, either. Who can buy even a second with money?
     There are still many other things that cannot be bought with money: health,life, happiness,friendship, love and so on. Just think, if a person hasn＇t these things at all, is the money still useful?
     Now, do you think money is everything?

    近来，有些人认为钱就是一切，他们说，要是有了钱，你就可以做任何事情，你可以住舒适的房子，坐豪华的轿车，吃可口的饭菜。
    我不这么认为。的确，钱可以买到我们需要的许多东西，但是，世界上还有许多美丽的东西用钱是买不到的。
    例如，知识是买不来的，一个人要想获得丰富的知识，只有通过艰苦的学习。时间用钱也是买不来的，谁能用钱买来哪怕一秒钟的时间呢?
    还有很多东西是钱买不到的，比如健康、生命、快乐、友谊、爱情等等，试想，一个人要是连这些东西都没有，那光有钱又有什么用呢?

There Should Be No "Little Emperors"

This afternoon on my way home I saw lots of people standing:at the gate of the primary school. I didn＇tknow what they are doing there at first. Then a group ofpupils came out of the school. Those people outside the gate went close to the pupils and called out names like "Lingling", "Fangfang", "Xiaohua", etc. Then I knew they had come to meet their children.
These children and other children like them are so happy that they are all like "little emperors" It＇s not good at all. Children will be the builders of our-country in the future. There are so many things for them to learn. Later many things will be done by them. This means that they shouldn＇t be "little emperors"
On the contrary, they should depend on themselves. And they sh0uid do everything they can do without the help of their parents!
Our country＇s future will be held in the hands of today＇s children, and, they will be its masters. So they should learn their parents＇ good habits and get rid of their own 15ad ones. Their parents can＇t look after them forever.

不应该做“小皇帝”
下午，在回家的路上，我发现一个小学门口站着许多人。起初，我不知道他们在那里干什么。接着，一群小学生从学校出来了。门口的那些人走近这些学生，并喊叫名字，如“玲玲”、“芳芳”、“小华”等等。我明白了，原来是家长来接孩子的。

Today smoking is a widespread habit ali over the world. Not only the old, the youth, but also middle school students have been engaged in smoking. Many of them think that smoking is a smart symbol.  
     However, smoking is harmful to one＇s ,health. It contributes a lot of lung cancer, from which many people have died in the past years. It can also cause many other diseases. Can Money Buy Happiness?

Can money buy happiness? Different people have different opinions. Some think yes, while others hold the opposite.
      It is true that with enough money one can buy all the things one wants, and live a life of comfort and security. However, it is equally true that lack of money causes great distress. It is a common view that "money is the root of all evil." The pursuit of money drives many people to cheat and steal. In some places there is nothing that cannot be bought with money, resulting in corrupt societies where everybody is miserable.
      So, money does not necessarily mean happiness. It all depends on how it is used. If we make honest and sensible use of money, it can be a stepping-stone to happiness l Although money cannot buy happiness, it can make happiness possible if it is employed sensibly.

My View on Job-Hopping

A lot of people like to do one job in their lives. They think people who change their jobs frequently are feckless. They believe that the only way to success is to stick to one job, for constant practice in a professional field helps make an expert.
     But there are many people who argue for changing their jobs, they argue that change means progress. They think if you are not satisfied with your present job, of course you have the right to replace it with a more challenging and better paid one. Each change means further success.
     My view on job-hopping is that it is reasonable to change your job if you have a better opportunity.

    我对“跳槽”现象的看法
    许多人喜欢一生中做一件工作，他们认为经常换工作的人软弱无能，他们相信成功的唯一途径就是坚持一项工作，因为在一个专业领域里不断的实践有助于专家的形成。

Health Is More Important

There are many people who think that wealth is better than health. I used to think so until one day I read a story about Howard Hughes. He was an American billionaire who got everything he wanted. However, in the last twenty years of his life,his health began to deteriorate and he was miserable. He had the best doctors and nurses. However, he could still find no relief. I realized that health is worth all the money in the world. If you have millions of dollars but your health is poor, you will not be able to do what you want to do. So I would like to say don＇t hurt yourself and try to make money.Instead, take care of your body and be happy at what you do. Health is more important.

The Way to Stay Healthy

Health is most important for any of us. ]n order to stay healthy, we need some common knowledge.
      First]y, pay attention to the diet. We should eat lots of fruit and vegetables, because they are rich in fiber and Iow in fat. As a proverb says, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." So fruit is good for health. Don＇t have a lot of food that contains too much fat, such as butter. Meanwhile, sweets should be eaten in proper quantity, because too much sugar does harm to us. Don＇t drink too much coffee,either.
     Secondly, exercise is necessary. Regular exercise can help us keep from getting fat. People who do running every day usually have stronger hearts than who don＇t.
     Finally, form good living habits. We should sleep for about 8 hours at night,and never work too hard. Over work and little sleep will lead to illness. What＇s more, stay away from cigarettes.
     These are the things we should pay attention to so as to stay healthy.

    健康对我们任何人来说都是最为重要的。为了保持健康，我们需要一些普通的知识。

It＇s important for us to keep healthy. Li Ming gives us a good example. He always takes exercises. He likes sports such as swimming, running and playing basketball. He goes to bed at ten in the evening and gets up at six in the morning. He takes care of himself. So our bodies are in great need of energy. If we don＇t have breakfast,there will be not enough energy to supply. This may stunt our growth.

     I often spend weekends with my family. Sometimes my parents take me to visit our relatives. Sometimes we go swimming or go dancing and sometimes I go to read some instructive books. I often enjoy myself at weekends.

Friends can be classified into two kinds, good friends and evil friends. Evil friends lead us astray and may destroy our life, while good ones drive us towards the right and make our life successful.

      In my opinion, friends can share something but they also should keep their own secrets. So I wish my friends wouldn＇t interfere in my privacy too much. On the other hand, my friends should have Something in common with me, at the same time something special. In this way we can attract each other and learn from each other.

    理想的明友
    朋友可以分为两种，益友和狐朋狗友。狐朋狗友会使我们误入歧途，毁了我们的一生；而益友会使我们明辨是非，使我们成功。
    日常生活中这两种朋友都存在。然而，在人们心目中仍存在理想的朋友。这种朋友勤奋、成功并忠诚。当你需要帮助时，他们会与你并肩作战，伸出援助之手。他们还可以与你分享快乐与痛苦。
    我认为朋友要分享一些东西但也要保留自己的秘密，所以我希望我的朋友不会过多地介入我的私事。从另一方面来说，我的朋友和我应有共同之处，同时又有各自的特点。这样我们才可以互相吸引，互相学习。

We Must Face Failure

As we all know, "Failure is the mother of success." But few people can really understand what the saying means.
     In the world, I am sure that no one dare say he hasn＇t met any trouble all his life. So we must face failure. In fact, failure is not fearful, but important thing is how to face it correctly. Facing failure, people will never take their fate lying down.They will try their best to work harder and harder until at last they succeed.
     Not being courageous to face setbacks, people have no chance to enjoy the pleasure of success. So they have nothing to do but feel sad and empty all day and all night. In fact, they lose the chance of success themselves.
     My friend, whenever in trouble, please remember, "Failure is the mother of success."

    我们必须面对失败
    我们都知道：“失败是成功之母。”但真正理解这句话的人却不多。
    我相信，世界上没有一个人敢说他一生中从没遇到过任何麻烦。因此，我们必须面对失败。其实，失败并不可怕，重要的是如何正确看待它。敢于面对失败，人们将不再由命运摆布。他们将全力以赴的辛勤工作，直到最后成功。
    不敢面对挫折，人们也就没有机会享受成功的喜悦。他们会无所事事，终日沮丧而空虚。事实上，是他们自己把成功的机会丧失了。
    朋友们，无论何时你遇到了困难，请记住：“失败是成功之母。”

Keeping Water Sources Clean

Who is willing to drink the polluted water? It can cause us to be ill and even to die. We can＇t wait for a moment to protect our water sources. The water we use comes from oceans, lakes, rivers or streams. But many of these water sources are getting seriously polluted. Towns and cities are pouring dust into the water. Many people are throwing all kinds of dirty things into the water. Factories are pouring waste material into the water.  Therefore, water sources have become so badly polluted that some of the water is unfit to drink or to use. Now it is high time that we should do something to protect our water environment from being polluted.

    保持水源清洁
    污染的水会使人生病甚至死亡，有谁愿意喝这样的水呢?我们要保护水源，刻不容缓。我们用的水来自海洋、湖泊、河流或小溪，但这些水源有许多正受到严重的污染。城镇乒把大量的尘埃排入水中，许多人正把各种；各样的脏物投进水中，工厂正把废物排入水中。因此，水源已经污染严重，其中一些不适合再饮用。现在到了．采取措施保护水环境使其免受污染的时候了。

Water Pollution

Today, I read a piece of news in China Daily. It reports that water pollution exists not only in Haihe River but aIso in some other rivers, lakes and seas in our country.
     Everyone agrees that water pollution is a serious problem today. Rivers, lakes and even oceans all over the world are bec0mingpolluted by garbage and dangerous chemicals. Oil and other chemicals can kill fish and make water unsafe for drinking
Polluted water is a hazard to everyone.
     Now more and more people have realized how serious the problem is. Our government is doing its best to take measures to fight against pollution. We＇ve done a good deal of work, but there＇s still a long way to go. We must keep on fighting until we find ways to protect the environment from being polluted, and do away with pollution. We are sure that we＇ll win the battle. Goodbye, water pollution!

    水污染
    今天，我读了《中国日报》的一则新闻。据报道，在我们国家，水污染不仅存在于海河中，也出现在其他河流、湖泊和海洋中。
    大家一致认为水污染已是当今的严重问题。世界范围内的河流、湖泊甚至海洋都受到垃圾和危险的化学制剂的污染。石油和其他化学品可以杀死鱼，使水变得不能饮用。被污染的水对每个人都是有害的。
    现在，越来越多的人都认识到这个问题有多重。我们政府止努力制定措施与水污染作斗争。我们做了许多工作，但还有很长的路要走。我们要坚持斗争，直到我们找到解决环境污染的办法。我们相信，我们能打赢这场战斗。再见，水污染!

Saving Our Earth

It is very important to deal with the rubbish in cities. For one thing, rubbish may cause a lot of pollution. It may pollute the air, the water and the places we live in. For another, it may do harm to people＇s health.
     So in our city, rubbish is well dealt with. First, it is sorted. Then old newspapers and glass are recycled. The harmful wastes are buried and the waste water is cleaned before it goes into the river. The government has already made laws against pollution caused by rubbish.
   But that＇s not enough. We must all try our. best to prevent rubbish from polluting the environment so as to. save our city and our living place.

    拯救地球
    处理城市垃圾是一个非常重要的问题。首先，垃圾会导致污染。它会污染空气、水和人们居住的场所。其次，它会危害人类健康。
    所以我们在城市中，垃圾得到了妥善处理。我们首先将垃圾分类，然后可将旧报纸和玻璃制品进行再生利用。有害的废物要被掩埋，污水要在净化后才排入河流。政府已经制定了规章，禁止垃圾污染。
    仅仅这些还不够。我们大家必须竭尽全力防止拉圾污染环境以及拯救我们的城市，拯救我们的家园。

Stop Polluting the Water!

Spring is the best season of a year. The weather gets warmer and Waemer. My classmates and I took a one-day sightseeing tour around our city. The scene was very beautiful. But when we saw the rivers along our city, I felt very sorry and thought a lot.
      With the development of; modern industry and agriculture, more and more waste is being poured into rivers. It has caused serious pollution. The rivers are becoming so dirty that nothing can live in them. The rivers are giving off a terrible smell.
      We make an urgent appeal that measures should be taken to cope with the situation. Our government should build various facilities such as sewage treatment plant and encourage scientists to work out more and better ways to reduce water pollution.
      Water is the source of our lives. It is very important to protect the water.

    停止污染水
    春天是一年中最好的季节。天气变得越来越暖和，我和同学进行了环城一日游，所到之处景色宜人。但当我们看到流过城区的河流时，我感到很惋惜，想了很多。
    随着现代工农业的发展，越来越多的污水正被排进河里，河水被严重污染。水变得如此肮脏，以至于生物不能在里面生存。河水发出难闻的气味。
    我们急切呼吁应该采取措施改变这种状况。政府应当兴建各种设施，例如污水处理厂，并且鼓励科学家们想出更多更好的办法以减少水污染。

Ashamed

One day,I saw a girl riding along the street. Suddenly,she knocked down an old woman. Instead of helping her up, the girl blamed her for the accident. Then'she rode away. A moment later,
she found her shoes on the backseat missing, and hurried back to the spot. To her surprise, she saw the old woman waiting for her. The girl felt really ashamed when the old woman handed the shoes to her. I think that we shouldn't do as the girl did to the old woman. Everybody should be kind to each other.

羞愧
一天，我看见一个小女孩正在街上骑车。突然，她把一位老太太撞到了。这个女孩不但没有帮助老太太站起来，反而责备她不小心，然后骑车走了。一会儿，她突然发现自己后车座位上的鞋不见了，于是她匆匆忙忙地回到了事故地点。令她吃惊的是，她看见老太太在一直在等她。当老太太把鞋交给她时，这位女孩感到特别羞愧。我认为我们不应当像故事中的女孩那样对待老人，人们之间应当互爱互助。

Three Kinds of Communication

As we all know, communication has been playing an important part in people's life. As far as I know there are many kinds of communication, among them mail, telephone and computer are most commonly used.
Writing letters is one of them. People use it to exchange information, ideas and thoughts. Slow as the mail is, it is the cheapest means of communication. The second kind is the telephone. By using telephone, people can hear each other even if they are far away. With the development of modern science and technology,the computer has come into being. Communication with computers is fast and easy. In this way, people can send E-mail to each other.
In a word, mail, telephone and computer all help to bring people all over the world closer.

三种通讯方式
众所周知，通信在人们的生活中起着重要作用。据我所知，通信方式有许多种，其中邮寄、电话和计算机最常用。
写信是其中的一种。人们可以通过写信来交换信息、观点和思想。尽管慢，但这是最便宜的通信方式。第二类是电话。通过电话，人们可以相距很远却能互相听见对方的谈话。随着现代科学和技术的发展，计算机应运而生，使用计算机通信方便快捷。这样，人们可以互相发送电子邮件。
总之，邮寄、电话和计算机使全世界的人们更加贴近了。

Talking about the Football Game

Helen: Henry,why don't we go out for lunch today and visit some friends?
Henry:And miss today's football game? Washington is playing New York today. I can't miss that.
Helen: Honestly, Henry. Don' t you ever get tired of football game ?
Henry :This will be one of the best games of the year and I haven't seen Washington play for years.
Helen: Oh, come on, Henry. Don' t you think it silly to spend every Sunday afternoon in front of the TV set, watching football?
Henry:No,not at all. Why don't you watch it with me? You might like it.
Helen:No,thanks. I have better things to do with my Sunday afternoons. Besides, it' s too rough for me.

谈论足球比赛
海伦：亨利，我们今天一块出去吃午饭，顺便去看几个朋友好吗? ”
亨利：错过今天的足球赛吗?今天是华盛顿和纽约两队之间的精彩足球比赛，我不愿错过。

Talking about the Examination

Kate: How was the examination, Dick ?
Dick:Not too bad. I think I passed the English and mathematics.The questions were not very difficult. How about you?
Kate :The English and maths papers weren't easy enough for me. I hope I haven't failed.
Dick:What I'm worrying about is physics. Some of the questions were too difficult for me.
Kate: Oh, cheer up, Dick. Perhaps we didn' t do that badly. The fellow next to me wrote his name at the top of the paper.
Dick: Yes ?
Kate: Then he sat there, looking at it for two hours, didn' t write a single word !

谈论考试
凯特：迪克，考得怎么样?
迪克：还行。我认为英语、数学考得还可以，题目不是太难。你呢?
凯特：我觉得英语、数学题目不容易，但愿能通过考试。
迪克：我一直担心物理，因为一部分题目太难了。
