1/ You should always smile .Do remember ,people always feel your smiles on the other side of the telephone even though they can't see you.

2/ Be sincere and always think in the others' shoes. Just imagine what you'll think or feel if you're the Enligh learner instead of a teacher.

3/ Make some conclusions always at the end of the talking. Help the learners find out their problems systematically. Never let them "slip" away with bunches of problems that are not yet or will never be solved. Everytime when I point out the problems in their conversation, they'll feel it's worth of their time and money and what's most important, they get something real and concrete from you instead of idling away half an hour night by night--with you.

4/ Give them some long-term advice because they really want to improve English skills in a short period.

我一个星期看一部片子。
第一天：关掉字幕看电影，认真听，反复听。我现在的水平是，一般美国英语发音清晰的Drama类型的剧情片，不看字幕，能听懂90%。那10%是寡人心头之恨。《欲望都市》《蜘蛛侠》之类简单一点的片子要好很多，最低95%。英国英语发音的就差了去，太伤自尊，不提也罢。
第二天：打开中文字幕看电影（只要翻译的别太离谱）。边看边猜英文字幕，猜不出来就回放。听出多少是多少，无论如何不能看英文字幕。
第三天和第四天：打开英文字幕看电影。利用暂停键，查出不认识的单词和表达法。查字典，学习，直到理解全部英文字幕。记笔记，把好句子记下来反复诵读。
第五天和第六天：打开英文字幕看电影，跟读，尽量跟上片中的人物并且模仿人物的语音、语调和语气。
第七天：关掉字幕看电影，重新练习听力，拾遗补缺。

阅读的方法，我主张一口气读下去，即便有个别单词挡道，只要不影响整体内容的理解，就不必停下来查词典，更没有必要见到好句子停下来就抄。因为那样会打断思路，影响阅读速度，甚至扼杀阅读的兴趣。不要以为读完一本书没有记下某个词语或某个句子就是一无所得。阅读的主要目的在于语言吸收上的“潜移默化”，在于获得语感。阅读需要“量”，没有大量的语言“输入”，是难以学好英语的。而我们国内的英语学习者恰恰语言输入量太少，当然输出量就更少。结果往往事倍功半。
